Anxiety
Symptoms of anxiety include stress that is out of proportion to the impact of the event, inability to set aside a worry, and restlessness.
In layman’s terms, it feels like the mind is going nonstop.
Physical symptoms often accompany the emotional symptoms of anxiety.
Physical Symptoms:
• Difficulty breathing
• Tightness in chest
• Sore neck and back muscles
• Digestive discomfort
• Dizziness
• Headaches
These symptoms can also lead to self-esteem deficits and struggles with social connection.
Knowledge and awareness of our body’s physical and emotional automatic responses can support beginning steps to healing. Individual sessions can consist of challenging anxiety-provoking thought patterns and learning to neutralize anxious feelings in healthy effective ways. Practicing presence and allowing thoughts in can also be significantly effective over attempting to “push” away our feelings.
Depression
Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. Struggles in maintaining relationships and employment can also become overwhelming.
Depression can be cyclical or, at times, can stem from external events such as grief, loss or ongoing stressors.
Psychotherapy can be helpful in creating a safe space to identify triggers and or causes while challenging negative thought patterns that tend to accompany depressive symptoms. By learning effective coping skills and setting realistic and attainable goals, moods can shift and our core beliefs about ourselves and the world around us change.
Trauma
For those who have experienced trauma, finding the right therapist can be a crucial step towards healing. We offer personalized treatments tailored to your specific needs, using evidence-based approaches , including AF-EMDR to help you move forward in your journey. Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders
People who have substance use disorders, as well as mental health disorders, are diagnosed as having co-occurring disorders, or dual disorders. This is also sometimes called a dual diagnosis.
Addressing all symptoms of co-occurring disorders jointly is crucial to healing and recovery. Depending on the severity of symptoms, individual therapy can be the right fit to help support continued recovery.
The onset of addiction can stem from childhood trauma, grief and loss, untreated mental health symptoms or simply as a way to cope with pain and suffering that feels too overwhelming to process.
If individual psychotherapy is not the right amount of support needed at the current place in your journey, we can help determine the appropriate level of care needed and provide referrals.
Pre and Postpartum
It can be hard to reach out for help when everything and everyone around you “expects” you to be happy. During pregnancy and after giving birth, there are many reasons that moods shift and symptoms of sadness and anxiety can heighten or appear. Although healthcare providers and society have come to take note of the commonality of these symptoms, it can still be difficult and overwhelming to reach out. At times, it can feel isolating and easy to turn blame inward. These symptoms are more common than is acknowledged and it is so important to honor one of the most significant and amazing transformations that the female body experiences.
Therapy can help identify, process and address these emotions. Together, a plan can be developed that will provide relief of symptoms that you as a new or expecting mother deserve.
Symptoms may include:
• Depressed or sad mood
• Tearfulness
• Loss of interest in usual activities
• Feelings of guilt
• Feelings of worthlessness or incompetence
• Fatigue
• Sleep disturbance
• Change in appetite
• Poor concentration
• Suicidal thoughts
